Are POLST used/recognized in Ohio?

POLST can be used within provider settings, as it is a medical order. However, in order for it to be recognized in the community (for example, by emergency responders in the case of a medical event in a private home or public place), it requires a legislative change. However, more and more providers are opting to use it, particularly for frail individuals that may move between care settings-- like long term care and hospitals.

Even for individuals in the community, it can be a powerful communication tool, provided that the order accompanies them to a provider / care setting.
